▸ 01 — The work

A liberation.

Danse de Prométhée is Charly Mandon's first symphonic score. Before this piece, the young composer — then in the orchestration class at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) — had only orchestrated "in the style of", working on existing repertoire excerpts. This seven-minute work, composed in 2017, marked a turning point: for the first time, orchestral writing was no longer an academic exercise but a fully creative act, bringing together orchestration and invention in one and the same gesture.

For the first time I had the opportunity to combine orchestration and creation, and it was a deeply liberating and joyful experience. Since then I have had a constant appetite for symphonic writing, and every new orchestral commission fills me with enthusiasm. — Charly Mandon, Crescendo Magazine interview, Oct. 2025

The title places the work under the sign of Prometheus — the figure of stolen fire, of the creative gift, of the founding gesture. Danse de Prométhée opens a lasting symphonic path for Mandon: since 2017, the composer has pursued this orchestral appetite — which he describes as constant — welcoming each new commission with renewed enthusiasm.
